Southern Highland Craft Guild
On Hwy 70 in Asheville, NC a pair of stone houses stand as a monument where time-honored traditions continue. In the 1940s, Ralph Morris, Sr. built a workshop to house jeweler and Guild member Stuart Nye. A few years later, he built an adjacent building specifically for the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Originally serving as a craft shop and headquarters for the Guild, this building, now known as Guild Crafts, continues as a craft shop offering the finest crafts from a nine-state region... pottery, handcarved wood, jewelry, baskets, handwoven table linens, folk crafts, ironwork, toys, glass, and quilts: enduring skills passed from hand to hand for generations. Come and browse through these historical landmarks. Take a tour of Stuart Nye's jewelry workshop. See where the past meets the present, and bring home a piece of a Southern Mountain tradition.
